Most weight-loss calculators draw a straight line and cheerfully predict you'll weigh nothing in a couple of years. Real weight loss slows down: as you get lighter, you burn fewer calories, so the same diet produces a smaller and smaller deficit. This tool models that day by day using the Mifflin–St Jeor equation, then caps the result at a healthy weight (BMI 18.5) for your height. The numbers are estimates to guide curiosity and planning, not medical advice - and SlimShape meal plans are built from food preferences, not these numbers.
Frequently asked questions
How does this weight loss calculator work?
It estimates the calories you burn each day using the Mifflin–St Jeor equation (based on your age, sex, height and weight) scaled by your activity level. It then compares that to what you eat and projects your weight day by day. Because your metabolism is recalculated as you lose weight, the projection slows down realistically instead of dropping in a straight line.
Why does my weight loss slow down over time?
A lighter body burns fewer calories, so the same diet creates a smaller deficit as you go. Your weight gradually settles at the point where the calories you eat match the calories you burn, which is why crash-diet 'straight line to zero' projections are misleading.
What is the lowest weight the calculator will show?
The projection stops at the lowest weight in the healthy BMI range (a BMI of 18.5) for your height. It will never project a weight below that, so you always get a realistic, healthy target instead of an impossible number.
Is 3,500 calories really one pound of fat?
It is a widely used rule of thumb (about 7,700 calories per kilogram). Real bodies vary with water, muscle and hormones, so treat the dates as a well-reasoned estimate rather than a guarantee.
Is this medical advice?
No. This is an educational tool. Before making significant changes to your diet, especially aggressive calorie deficits, talk to a doctor or registered dietitian.
Does this calculator create my SlimShape meal plan?
No. SlimShape meal plans are based on diet style and food preferences (likes, budget, avoidances), never on the weight, height, or BMI you enter here. This tool is separate and educational only.
